I can imagine it would, but not for everyone. I think some atheists are not really atheists. Instead they believe there's a God, but reject or hate it because of their own personal circumstances. eg. if someone was abused by a priest, that could easily create a situation where the victim hates everything the church stands for (including God). Or another example - someone's life is ruined by unfortunate circumstanes, ill-health or whatever - such a person may reject God. They believe God exists, but hate or reject it because it didn't answer prayers for help. Real atheism is a null belief situation, not driven by ill feeling. Ill feeling implies the ill-feeling is directed towards *something*, ie. God.

Atheism is literally a lack of conviction in the existence of a God or gods. If someone secretly believes in these things, they are by definition, not an atheist.
