Humans can be spectacularly absurd. There is something in our makeup that makes us very vulnerable to suggestion, it gives us a susceptibility to believe the most ridiculous things, not only believe them but then to go on to try to propagate such beliefs so that we can all be stupid together. Imagine in 2024 that there is still debate over Noah's Ark, and Special Creation. One imagines that these people had some form of schooling.
It may be something to do with how we evolved with tribal leaders who told stories around fires, or some such, to the point that people today are almost imprinted with an aversion to reality.
And any religion that does not contradict science and thus reality is rejected out of hand because the people want the fantasy. They want preachers and popes and ministers and bishops and gurus and evangelists and forget that these are just ordinary people repeating some junk that they heard passed down to them and nobody ever stops to think for themselves, to question the substance of religious belief that is thousands of years old and is more about Chinese Whispers than any kind of reality.
Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy and fundamental religion.
