We are so complex, Trees and not always in a good way.

There must have been something fundamentally important and essential to the development of us as conscious, social creatures, when our brains expanded beyond what one might expect from an evolutionary necessity alone, that we humans needed to be fed, or had a need to constantly process abstraction. Abstraction is the driving force in our lives in that the inner voice lives in a fantasy, we must be constantly entertained. Constantly led to believe in things that are not necessarily real. At the moment we are held captive by the exploitation of this strength and weakness that makes us so very vulnerable, social media, screens, HC, etc.

Perhaps it started with cave painting and this then developed the inner dialogue and laid the seeds of religious belief and culture. I recently watched the doco about Homo Naledi, Cave of Bones and it can be seen that these really primitive homo species with brains slightly larger than a chimp started bringing their dead into this cave that was extraordinarily difficult to get into, pitch black and dangerous and yet some abstraction drove them on. Thousands of years of Dreamtime stories around fires, especially ones with a kind of moral punchline regarding the dangers of the outside world, how life began, why a mountain exists and the dangers of life outside the cave.

So that by the relatively short time it took to get here today, we are technologically modern but still very much that wide-eyed creature full of wonderment ready to believe anything the storyteller tells us. Sounds a bit like a literal Genesis, doesn't it?

Not sure how we get past this. It's more than bias, it's who we are.
