The reason the aliens haven't destroyed us, or subjugated and enslaved us, is probably that they created us and they're monitoring our natural evolution here on Earth. Apart from occasionally abducting human specimens for medical examinations to check on our development, they're probably under orders to keep their distance from us and only intervene to prevent us from annihilating ourselves.
They probably allowed the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki because they were only atom bombs and the devastation was limited to the two cities involved. We now have enough hydrogen bombs to destroy the entire planet but they're not going to allow us to do it.
It would seem that Erich von Däniken and the Raëlians have been close to the truth all along, and the established churches will have to seriously rethink their teachings and bring themselves up to date (as will those who disparagingly refer to "skydaddy").
