The Bible, like all the other Scriptures of this world, is an attempt to convey totally abstract concepts into understandable concepts that move people into positive states of being.
To bring a creature evolved through nature is one thing then the trick is to educate its completely animal psyche by a slow and subtle process. That which enabled survival as an animal we now call sin, because a completely cooperative process is the order of the day.
It can't be straightforward because two completely differing states are engaging, so we get a suggested inference of meaning, not absolute meaning.
As for Satan, it does not exist. It can even be argued that evil does not exist. When goodness does not exist, or is removed the void that is left is ignorance and this ignorance manifests as evil. Evil does not exist as a force, or an entity. Evil exists only as the absence of goodness. Goodness is real, a learnt and practiced. Evil is the consequence of goodness not existing because of a lack of education.
G.d never ruled with an iron fist. These are stories. I think today humanity is passing through adolescence and just like adolescents we are getting into trouble all the time. I enjoyed reading your post.
