Correct abuman. Considering Turaco was the first prospect tested since the 1940's, it certainly adds a lot of confidence for the upcoming program IMHO.

"Uganda has no upstream oil industry though some exploration is taking place. No wells have been drilled in Uganda since the 1940s. No commercial discoveries have been made in Uganda and there is consequently no production or field development.

The Ugandan government through its Petroleum Exploration and Production Department is promoting the open acreage in the Albertine Graben. The Department believes that the Albertine Graben is underexplored and that good hydrocarbon potential, in terms of source rocks, reservoirs and seals, has been proved in recent studies. Five oil seeps have been identified over an expanse of the graben.

It has defined five Exploration Areas in the west of the country. The region stretches from its terminus at the Aswa Shear Zone in the north, southward through the Pakwach - Rhino Camp basin, Lake Albert basin, Semliki basin to the Lakes Edward and George basin at its southern end. The available blocks are Blocks 1, 2 4 and 5.

Tullow holds interests in four licences in Uganda. Two of these, Block 1 and Block 3A, are new licences, acquired during 2004 while a third licence, Block 3, was extended for a further period of six years over a reduced area. The Turaco-2 well, which was drilled in Block 3 (Tullow 50%), encountered a number of hydrocarbon-bearing zones however, due to technical difficulties, the testing programme could not be completed and the well was abandoned in June 2004."
