I'm a Shareholder and a Customer; Spacetalk (currently) have the best product on the market for kids aged ~7 to ~11 or 12 years of age (IMO). I think it's a bit of a cheek to sell a product that requires an ongoing app fee in order to use that product. That said, given the maintenance & support, I'm happy to pay a bit of a premium for the 'premium service' and understood the ongoing fees before I bought Spacetalk. I just factored in the $5.99 monthly fee when comparing products and prices.

However, I understand my kids will want a proper phone sometime... so I'm not going to be a Spacetalk customer for life, once my kids outgrow the watch I'll be ending the app subscription. All up, I'll probably pay about $250 in app subscription fees, but I think if that were added to the watch price, it'll be a big turnoff for many customers.

If SPA can somehow retain customers beyond the time their kids outgrow the watch, then the business model would be even better... right now the reoccurring revenue is probably limited to 2-4 years per customer.
