The UK government announced the sites for eight new plants to be built by private companies in Britain.
No subsidies but policy decisions are creating a level playing field in terms of carbon pricing and other related policy decisions.
Reason is starting to triumph over hysteria and prejudice.
They know a) they cannot meet greenhouse gas reduction targets without nuclear,
b) they want to keep electricity prices affordable (watch out German industry!!!),
c) that renewables as a base-load solution are too expensive and too intermittent,
d) they want some energy security - alternative is to rely on Russian gas and OPEC oil.
Together with the recent Saudi news (16 plants proposed), calls for Japanese reactors to go back on line this is good news and, perhaps, sanity prevailing.
