Whilst not to rain on your parade, Softbank are also taking advantage of the huge fall in the pound to the yen and us dollar, as the deal is "valued" in pounds sterling.
I wouldn't go as far as to say the "the reason for the takeover is that Softbank want in to the IOT sector", basically Softbank are getting ARM about 30% cheaper compared to its price before Brexit.
