At xmas I was given a dvd of the Dad's Army movie but didn't watch it for a while because I thought it would be a poor imitation of the original series, as so many things are.
But I did watch it a couple of days ago and was pleasantly surprised. To start with the casting was great, with some aging stars carrying on the roles that were so famous.
Also it focused on a scenario which the series never did and which gave scope for different comedy scenes.
So all in all it was worth making and seeing.

Some things SBS on demand have just now that would interest film buffs are Boccaccio 70, Fellinopolis and Brief Encounter. The first two are for Fellini fans and the last one is a remake of a classic.
With Richard Burton and Sophie Loren it looked like a winner but quite frankly after about 20 mins I turned it off. I found the performances wooden and not a patch on the classic with Leslie Howard and Celia Johnson.
But I have to watch it again, maybe I wasn't in the right mood.
