Before I forget, I saw the fairly recent French movie of one of the Maigret books. On SBS it is.
A very old Gerard Depardieu is Maigret and of course he does it so well, as he always does. He's one of the remaining icons.
I collected a lot of the Georges Simenon books when I was a reader, but with the disappearance of most 2nd hand bookshops I suppose they'd be hard to find now, unless they're in some digital form. But it wouldn't be like the smell and feel of an old book.
