North & South
This UK series (on Britbox I think) is quite good with a good cast. I think but not sure I've seen it before.
But what's interesting about it is that it deals with the working lives of the people in Lancashire in the cotton mills of Dickens' time ie the mid-19th century.
It was appalling. They got paid a pittance and they worked in an atmosphere filled with cotton fibres in the air so thick you could hardly see through it. Of course many died with lung disease and that would include children as old as under 10, who were employed to dive under the looms to retrieve the wastage.
If they went on strike for better pay & conditions, the owners would call in the local military to deal with them. It puts another perspective on the growth of unionism.
