Sellers had a number of similar offbeat roles over his career. I can think of the original version of Lolita, directed by Stanley Kubrick (who else?), with James Mason in the lead. What comes to mind about that movie is the dark comedy scene where Mason (as Humbert Humbert) tries to shoot Sellers (as Quilty) as he ducks for cover from one piece of furniture to another all the while protesting his innocence with respect to Lolita. This is how Sellers' performances stick in my mind decades after seeing them. The final enigmatic scene in Being There is such a one. (And don't get me started on his various character roles on the Goon Show)
