As to Wolf Hall, I've just been watching Ep 4.
The final scene between Thomas Cromwell and Thomas More is just magic.
There is something in the tradition of British theatre, which probably dates as far back as Shakespeare, that moulds actors like Mark Rylance and Anton Lesser into works of art.
It may very well happen in other traditions, French or German or whatever, but I have seen plenty of foreign cinema and I couldn't say so.
I think it comes from the rigorous training of the drama schools, the provincial theatres and such as the Royal Shakespeare. Sadly I am not sure it will continue because of the different
world of today, which will be a tragedy.
