There's a doco on SBS I think about the friendship between Churchill and the refugee director Alexander Korda and how they combined to influence public opinion against Nazi Germany before and during WW2. Churchill was a huge cinema fan since its beginnings and could see the propaganda possibilities of it. This was especially important in America where there was both a large pro-German movement and an isolationist mood.
Churchill got the movies he wanted and Korda got a knighthood.
