Finally got around to seeing this 1979 Australian movie again, with Australian/American/Irish actor/director Mel Gibson and American Piper Laurie. It was Gibson's 3rd movie and Laurie's 40th something. She started in the early 1950s and she was still a stunner, not to mention she had bagged a lot of performance awards before and after. She died just a couple of years ago. I find it quite a moving story, with Mel playing a young man on the autistic spectrum I guess and Piper his casual employer then virtually his carer and in the end his wife. Some old but not forgotten Oz actors in there too. I didn't know this was based on a Colleen McCullough book nor that Piper had starred in some other screen adaptations of her works.
