The Tailor of Panama
As I started watching this last night, I noted that it was based on a book by John le Carre and that he and that great scriptwriter Andrew Davies had jointly written the script. Great I thought.
But I hadnt got too far in before I started thinking this reminds me of something else. Sure enough, change the location and a bit of the plot and you would have Grahame Green's book Our Man in Havana, later filmed with Alec Guiness.
Green's story might not have had enough gratuitous sex & sleaze to satisfy a 21st century audience but it certainly had more charm and subtle humour.
