I didn't think I was going to enjoy this 2018 French production in the early stages but I persevered and I'm glad I did so. I was vaguely aware of the 17th century writer Cyrano de Bergerac but not of the fact his name had been kept alive through an 1897 play which remains the most successful in the history of the French theatre. And it is the first production of the play which is the storyline of this entertaining movie. As the credits roll at the end, so does a sequence of clips, starting from 1900, of the leading actors over the years who have played the part of Cyrano over the years, including Gerard Depardieu.
