I started watching this last night. I had seen some of it when it was broadcast years ago. Set in 1932, the opening text tells us that the Indian subcontinent, which at that time included present day Pakistan, is run by 3000 British civil servants. What a gobsmacking statement. But it's true. The East India Company and then the British govt had systematically eliminated the power of the previous ruling class. It's a well made series about the latter days of the Raj and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it. Pretty long, I think I got it at ebay.
