    Peter Davison
I would class him as a character actor really. He first came to notice (well my notice anyway) as the younger brother, Tristan, in the brilliant series All Creatures Great & Small - the original that is - based on the books by James Herriot (a nom de plume).
I read all the books and watched the series multiple times. When you're onto a good thing, stick with it.
    I remember my Mortein jingles.

Two other series starring Davison are worth seeing
The Last Detective: a quietly amusing police story with Davison as the never promoted Detective Constable nicknamed "Dangerous", who nevertheless manages to solve the cases while having a strained marriage.

Campion: this is an amateur detective series set in the golden age of detective stories ie the 1920-50s.
Now I just love this period. I love the cars, the music, the clothes, the speech, everything about it.
Again this is a quietly amusing series, no blood & gore, no graphic sex. But I find it entertaining.
