Of course, it centers around one painting, part of the frequently referenced Nazi looting.
But the Nazis were not the only art looters, maybe not even the most recent large scale looters.
Others of note were -
- Napoleon, particularly when he was in & out of Italy, making his son King of Rome (I wonder did the Louvre give it all back)
- the British of course ie What the British Stole
Before that history is a bit vague, but being at war with itself more often than not, Europe must have seen a lot of it. I imagine eg that there must have been a lot during the Thirty Years War.
