The Scarlet &The Black
A 1975 Hollywood movie worth watching , quite long, with Gregory Peck, Christophe Plummer and John Gielgud as the Pope. He must have loved playing the pope, camping it up blessing an imaginary crowd from the papal window.
Apparently a true story of a priest running a POW escape network out of the Vatican.
Gregory Peck made a few crusading movies in his time: his Atticus in Mocking Bird was one.
Another was Gentleman's Agreement which caused a lot of controversy in attacking anti-semitism in America. Peck was probably lucky not to be hauled before the McCarthy Committee, a number of peopld associated with the movie were.
