I watched A Kind of Loving last night, one of the New Wave British movies from the early 60s.
It was Alan Bates second movie but he went on to make heaps more
His first movie would you believe was opposite Sir Laurence Olivier.
Seen this one maybe twice before but a long time ago.
Many of Bates' generation of actors made a couple of hit movies then faded out or mostly did stage work.
He did both and plenty of it and as he got older he just grew into the new kind of role, for instance as the butler in that great movie Gosford Park. He died at a young 69 though.
