He could afford to do that, he was reputed to be earning around 40,000 pounds sterling a year in the 1930s and on from his absolutely prolific writing. He wrote books, musical comedies for Hollywood and mountains of short stories. He had some trouble with the Brits after the war because, politically innocent as I think he was, he made a few broadcasts of his work for German radio. It may also have been a deal to allow him to get back to his villa on the Cote d'Azure.
His work translates beautifully to the screen. There was the Jeeves & Wooster series done by Hugh Laurie and Stephen ? (forgotten). And this series with John Alderton & Pauline Collins, who do his characters beautifully.
And the other nice thing about it is that each story is introduced by Wodehouse himself, 93 at the time, still with enthusiasm for the plots and although it would be only months before his death.

Who am.I a fan of? I'm sorry, of whom.
I don't think I could ever do a full list. But one person who would be on it is the late Arthur Lowe of Dads Army fame.
I have been watching the series Potter, a moderately amusing set, but when you get to the third series you find old Arthur has died (which he actually did) and they replaced him with someone not nearly so funny. It would have been better just to end it, but I suppose all kinds of contracts were in place.
