Something to look a long way forward to:

Of course the 11 hour 1980 series will remain the benchmark but personally I thought the 2008 movie was pretty good. The plain fact is that this amazingly slim novel has such depth that a 90 or 120 minute movie just can't bring out the depth of the story and its background, so it must move from each chosen scene to another with the hope that the full story somehow hangs together. I suppose that works for people who have both read the book and seen Jeromy Irons & Anthony Andrews and works on a different level for others.
