La Mafia uccide solo d'estate (The mafia kills only in summer)
Despite the title and some of the grim
footage, this brilliant little Italian movie is as much a comedy as it is a coming of age story and a childhood romance fulfilled.
It would help if you had seen the movie Il Divo for background and some of the allusions. Giulio Andreotti, PM of Italy in the 70s, and believed to be the Mafia's man in Rome, is a young boy's idol even to the extent of taking on his appearance at a fancy dress party. The likeness is hilarious.
But the movie is also, particularly at the end, a homage to the judges and police killed in standing up to the ruthless crime bosses of the period.
Director Pierfrancesco Diliberto who also stars won a best new director award.
It's a great little movie with a lot of laughs
