I meant to leave a comment about The Borgias.
Well it's a reasonable costume drama, very long though and it doesn't even get to the end of the story. It finishes in mid air.
Probably the most interesting part of the story happens after the Borgia Pope's death when Cesare becomes a gun for hire basically.
What it does give us though is a good look at how corrupt the Church was and of course that applies for practically its whole existence, although there have been highs & lows
Assuming Jesus to have been a real person with disciples, he would have been disgusted (like Savanarola) if he had known what his movement became.
