Secondly, I know there are some people who favor renewable energy that also advocate nukes. Although, mostly that nuke support is based around the need for nuclear weapons and defense with nuclear power as a kind of side benefit.
As I have posted many times before, I am not against nuclear power per se. Modern nuclear reactors are very well designed and quite safe imo. If it wasn't for the waste issues, then they would be much more attractive.
My main issue with nuclear is that it is way too expensive, quite complex, requires a large support industry and takes forever to build.
It simply doesn't compare to renewables plus storage for the Australian application.
On top of that, the baseload business model for nuclear ( and coal ) has recently been smashed by the renewables plus storage example so no matter how much nuclear improves, it is now effectively a white elephant in the Australian context.
Maybe they will get fusion sorted one day and that will swing things in it's favor but given the rapid advancements in renewables and storage technologies, the window is closing fast.
That is the trouble with the deniers. They never bother to listen and read an opposing opinion and try and understand it.
So, in summary, it is not about one side against another. It is the details and the facts that are important. It is the best solution for the country with the technology available at the time.
In the past that technology was coal, gas and oil.
Now it is very low emission, renewable, cheap, recyclable technology that will help us electrify just about everything.
Unfortunately for nuclear in Australia, it misses out.

no still possible but we need to get a wriggle on. we have the raw materilas and you can buy them off the shelf.
ffs lets get it done instead of sitting in dark corners wringing our hands in indecision. the morons we elect just keep proving themselves to be incompetent dross. it took 60 years to dig the first sod for a second runway.
fusion is a dream - a pipe dream. fission is real and tangible - work with what is working now and keep researching the other.
hell its not bloody hard
on your first point why is it ok to call others rwnjs but its taboo to call those on your side lwnjs?
