Yes. I have some in the UK. Had them for a long time. But family in UK is actively buying more. If you have the deposit you can buy a house/flat and the rent more than covers the very low interest only mortgage repayment, giving you positive cashflow from day 1. This is based on a model of interest only.
Having said that it is getting more and more difficult to get interest only mortgages.
Some areas have done very well in terms of capital gain recently over last few years - namely London and surrounding shires ... equally nice university towns and or IT corridor towns like Reading have done well. Other areas have been stagnant for up to 15 years. UK is dividing very much into those who have, and those who don't ..... and house prices reflect accordingly.
