The streets are peaceful Euromaidan has even organised a big centre of Kiev clean up for this weekend which so far 30 000 people have signed up for. Some cleaning materials will be made available but you are welcome to bring your own if anyone wants to join.
Armed Russian forces have taken over government buildings in Simferopol this morning and raised the Russian flag. There are about 120 of them armed with RPG, and machine guns and dressed in standard full Russian SBU combat gear.
But that is Crimea which an autonomous regain of Ukraine with its own government.
You will read a lot about Ukraine being a plaything of the main world powers but I see it as a nation who finally became fed up with their brutal mafia leaders and removed them.
We hear this morning that the central bank's gold reserves are not there, the vaults are empty and the gold is apparently stolen. In addition the NBU reserves are nearer $15bn than the $18bn claimed, the missing $3bn also seems to have been stolen and transferred out of the country.
There are still more than 300 people missing who have not been in contact with their families since going to Maidan while videos are now emerging showing Berkut soldiers carrying decapitated corpses around behind their lines of buses during last week.
Our new government includes a number of the Maidan civic leaders, it has even been recognised by China.
When you read about the country being taken over by Neo Nazis and the Russian language being banned bear in mind a lot of these stories appear in newspapers owned by Russian interests who support the Kremlin. The Evening Standard in London for example is owned by a pro-Putin Russian. The Standard published an article yesterday claiming that protesters had ransacked Yanukovich's old palace and were looting the city. This is not true, there is no looting here.
I expect Russia will try to take Crimea, I expect they will probably succeed and I expect they will kill a lot of people as they do it.
