In a way providing a supply line stays available from Poland then Kiev is better off than Stalingrad which as effectively isolated
Like any endeavor there are 4 separate resources at play , boots on the ground and in the air , capital as in the money to get the job done , assets ie military hardware and infrastructure (buildings ) and land .

Ukrainians have the Kiev land and a land bridge to Poland , it probably has around 1Million men available mainly untrained , it is being supported with capital by the EC and NATO , but lacks the military hardware .

So from an attrition perspective I feel what is needed is mainly two things training of the manpower and maintenance of the land bridge to Poland with aircover to provide the import of supplies including a big increase in military hardware , the sentiment from Europe suggests they will provide that hardware quickly -lets hope training and supplies keep occurring
