I don't think hand signals signify any sort of lateral thinking...lol
Very annoying when she is waffling on about something that is nothing to do with the question asked and waving her arms like a traffic cop. IMO, it makes her look a bit dumb. Three more years of these Gillard/Swan antics is an unpleasant thought.
