Sorry, I am confused about they distinction between killing people and combat.
Mercenaries in Iraq and Afganistan have killed many people and that is very combatish to me.
Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercenary, quite interesting, not to prove a point one way or the other, just interesting.
