My experience is that the Chinese do assimilate because they adapt and go on
It is a number of other regressive types who live in the past and find it inconceivable that they should be asked to assimilate that are the problem
Having said that the Chinese have taken a strong hold on Australia due to their expansionist attitude and they should be curbed because of this
The people who built this country are a minority now and as a consequence the character of the country has changed the "bronzed aussie" is a an endangered species and unless we do what Paul Keating wanted to happen, IE become an Asian country we are doomed to fade into obscurity
