Unconventional Middle East Important!

  1. 14 Posts.
Conventional resources and unconventional resources are two very different, separate sets of resources that can potentially be extracted.
Conventional oil or gas means formations that are normal and easy to extract product from. Conventional resources tend to be superior , easier and less expensive to extract simply because they require no specialized technology and can utilize common methods. Because of this simplicity , relative cheapness , conventional oil and gas are generally the first targets of industry activity.
Although unconventional oil or gas is very much more difficult to extract .Some of these resources are trapped in reservoirs with very poor permeability and porosity, meaning that it is extremely difficult or impossible for oil or natural gas to flow through the pores and into a standard well.
Unconventional resources are being utilized more and more as decades of oil and natural gas production have resulted in extensive use of conventional resources.https://energyeducation.ca/encyclopedia/Conventional_vs_unconventional_resource
But the scary thing is some middle eastern countries are beginning to need more of the unconventional gas to sustain their very rapid population growth and rising demand internationally with the depleting of the oil fields for example ( Oman , Saudi , Kuwait ) are all diversifying Qatar still has very vast conventional gas reserves which can last more than the countries above as they have less natural gas but every oilfield since tapped begins to deplete and most of these countries have produced oil for over 72 years that is huge....
For example Saudi was looking for conventional gas in the barren desert empty quarter but mostly failed to regain any results now they are developing an unconventional gas which is more expensive and harder to extract and also less porous https://www.petroleum-economist.com/articles/upstream/exploration-production/2020/saudi-gas-drive-goes-unconventional.
For Oman they are conducting massive onshore explorations to develop unconventional oil and gas but some have shown results and some were disappointing more information will come as I research more about this topic.
For Kuwait assessment suggests that Kuwait has a some potential in its unconventional resources. As the conventional resources are already in mature stages just like the above countries (Saudi and Oman ) http://www.searchanddiscovery.com/pdfz/documents/2019/80657suresh/ndx_suresh.pdf.html .
Now for Qatar it has the largest conventional gas field that it shares with Iran to the north in the world and Middle East these two countries I mentioned are rivals of the other gulf countries that is by Qatar funding mainly the brotherhood movement which has roots in Egypt , Libya , Syria and Iran supporting Shia movements while the gulf countries support the Sunni sect . Qatar is the only gulf country which enjoys friendly relationship with Iran although Oman can be considered more on the mutual side . With the world leaning to cleaner fuel like natural gas instead of oil its going to be tough. Many countries have vast unconventional gas like the UK has the same amount of unconventional gas as Saudi Arabia and that is by fracking ( BBC news ) and USA , China , Canada . For Australia it has a mixture of Conventional and Unconventional gas reserves however they are vast , unconventional gas is abundant it can be found literally everywhere especially in the oceans of the world , shale and tight tar sand.
For gulf countries can they lose some of their importance and can Qatar and Iran become more stronger or will it be a long race for dominance?
