Thanks for your explanation - I guess it's different for open pit mining and not the reason that to date (and more so in Peter Nicholson's reign) that the mill head grade so badly reconciled with the O/P assays. I guess that was due to simply picking up waste (or lower grade ore) around the identified ore. As I understand it their is nearly always a halo of lower grade material around high grade sections which dilutes the ore to the mill. A guess another factor is the ore you are blending it with.
