I think this is a really interesting post and a plausible proposition. However whether it explains all the gap between prediction and delivered $ is debatable I think as even with the march quarter included the gap is still substantial.

I have already written to the business to see if I can get a better understanding of how their supply chain works - from customer order through to fulfillment/payment - because I think understanding that may help explain a few things about the business. I note that the Petra report spoke about an exercise currently underway designed to find supply chain improvements as well. Any business that has long delays built into their supply chain for whatever reason, or needs to hold inventory, has waste and cost. Check out the concepts behind "Gemba" and the 7 wastes!
