All of these internet connected smart speakers need to be trained to understand speech patterns, different languages and different accents. Appen supplies the training data and is the global leader. My father in law is German and my Google Home couldn't understand him at all in the early days - this seems to be improving. So rather than the individual training the device to his/her own voice, its done at a global level.
