Albemarle Chief Financial Officer Scott Tozier said Thursday on a conference call with analysts.

The number of available plug-in hybrids and battery-electric models announced by automakers for 2021 has grown by almost 40 percent since mid-2017. As a result, demand for lithium carbonate equivalent will be about 475,000 tons by 2021 and 1 million tons by 2025, he said.

Woolworths and Linfox launch first EV to deliver fresh produce in Melbourne

Primary Connect, the supply chain arm of Australian supermarket giant Woolworths Group, has partnered with leading Australian logistics company Linfox to launch a new electric truck on Melbourne’s roads which will deliver fresh produce to Woolworths supermarkets.

The Volvo FL Electric – one of only two currently operating in Autralia – will transport fresh produce daily from Primary Connect’s Melbourne fresh food distribution centre to Woolworths stores around Melbourne.

“We’re excited to deepen our investment in electric vehicles in partnership with Linfox, as we pave the way for a greener next-generation supply chain,” said Chris Brooks, acting head Primary Connect and Chief Supply Chain Officer of Woolworths Group.

First Cupra Borns roll off production line at VW’s Zwickau plant

Cupra has kicked off production of the Born, the Spanish brand’s first all-electric vehicle that was recently revealed to be destined for the Australian market – but not before it is launched first in Europe – as a new and relatively affordable “challenger brand.”

Cupra said this week that series production of the Born had kicked off in Germany, at Volkswagen Group’s Zwickau plant, which produces 100% electric vehicles and is considered the largest and most efficient electric factory in Europe.

The new EV from the VW stable, which will headline at this week’s Automobile Barcelona, marks the start of an “electric offensive” by Cupra (formerly Seat), and will spearhead the company’s expansion into new international markets, including what it describes as “the most electrified countries.”

Rolls-Royce unveils first electric car, Spectre, and will go all-electric by 2030

Rolls-Royce announced today that its first electric car is going to be called “Spectre,” and it’s unveiled the first prototype.

The automaker also confirmed that it is going all-electric by 2030.

In 1900, Charles Rolls experienced an early electric car that was then competing with gasoline-powered vehicles. He said:

The electric car is perfectly noiseless and clean. There is no smell or vibration, and they should become very useful when fixed charging stations can be arranged. But for now, I do not anticipate that they will be very serviceable – at least for many years to come.
It took more than a century, but electric cars are now taking over, and the company founded by Rolls is getting in the game.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ chief executive officer, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, announced the brand’s first electric car:

Today, 117 years later, I am proud to announce that Rolls-Royce is to begin the on-road testing program for an extraordinary new product that will elevate the global all-electric car revolution and create the first – and finest – super-luxury product of its type. This is not a prototype. It’s the real thing, it will be tested in plain sight and our clients will take first deliveries of the car in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Rolls-Royce didn’t unveil any details about the vehicle other than the name and the release date.

The automaker also shared some images of a heavily camouflaged prototype, which it says is going to look like the production version:
