The industry estimates that with the full replacement of lithium batteries in electric bicycles, the annual demand for lithium batteries for electric bicycles will increase by more than 18 GWh per year.

According to industry forecasts, the global lithium battery market in 2021 will reach 154GWh in addition to electric vehicles.

[Abstract] Under the sweep of the global clean energy wave, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China have continued to record new highs in recent years. Nowadays, the tentacles of this new energy have been extended to the electrification of the shipping ship field. The two giants of the power battery, the Ningde era(CATL) and the BYD prophet, have already taken the lead.

Under the sweep of the global clean energy wave, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China have continued to record new highs in recent years. Nowadays, the tentacles of this new energy have been extended to the electrification of the shipping ship field. The two giants of the power battery, the Ningde era and the BYD prophet, have already taken the lead.

Ship electrification begins to take off

Recently, Ningde era and China Classification Society (CCS) Wuhan Institute of Standardization signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Fujian, the two sides will promote cooperation in the research and water application of battery system ship technology standards, accelerate the recognition and inspection of related battery products. . It is reported that the two sides will jointly launch research and revision of electric ship safety regulations, and establish a safety standard system from battery cells, modules, battery management systems to battery systems.

Huang Shilin, the vice chairman of the Ningde era, said in his speech that "the blue sky defense war will bring new opportunities for the electricization of trucks in the short term. In the future, the ship electrification and energy storage industry to be promoted by the country will gradually take off." The strategic cooperation between the Ningde era and China Classification Society has paved the way for the opening of the electric power market of 10 billion yuan.

Although BYD has not seen any recent movements in electric ships, it has been intentionally laid out in 2016 as early as 2016. When Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD's board of directors, met with the mayor of Guilin in Shenzhen, he expressed the hope that the two sides could cooperate in the electrification of tourist ships.

"BYD is not willing to only turn around in the automotive field. Just like doing a new track business - cloud track, in the future, BYD will even be involved in all major transportation areas such as ships and airplanes," said a person familiar with Wang Chuanfu.

Lithium battery is suitable for China's electric ship field

In recent years, the electrification trend of short-distance passenger transport, ferry and scenic tour vessels launched in various parts of China has been obvious. In addition, as the high-power pure electric version becomes more and more feasible, the scope of use of electric ships will be further expanded. "Electric boats are the inevitable outcome of the intelligent and green development of ships. China's electric ships are widely used in ships such as ferries, cruise ships, container ships, cargo ships and engineering ships," said Zhang Wenfen, a postdoctoral fellow at the Intelligent Transportation Systems Research Center of Wuhan University of Technology.

In addition to the promotion of the market, the state has also given strong support to the electrification of ships at the policy level. In September last year, the Ministry of Transport issued guidance and demanded that “accelerate the study of pure electric cargo ships, realize the berthing of electric cargo ships and use shore power and charge”.

Under the guidance of the policy, the field of electric ships has also attracted foreign investment. In October last year, the Dutch energy storage and battery company Lithium Werks revealed that it will build a 60-hectare lithium-ion battery plant in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province with a total investment of nearly 1.6 billion euros (about RMB 12.8 billion). Lithium Werks is a manufacturer focused on supplying batteries to equipment other than electric vehicles. The company also vowed that it will be powered by forklifts to ships and mining equipment in the near future.

"Based on safety and economy, lithium batteries are suitable for electric ships in China. Power battery and BMS battery management systems have developed rapidly in recent years. Many marine battery manufacturers' power battery products have passed the experimental test and obtained the China Classification Society approval certificate. The charge-discharge rate reaches 20C, and the ship's power handling is good,” said Yan Xinping, director of the National Water Transportation Safety Engineering Technology Research Center.

At the beginning of December last year, the country's first Beijing-Hangzhou Canal 1000-ton pure electric transport ship cooperation agreement was signed in Changzhou, Jiangsu. In this project, the power system, which is the core component of the electric cargo ship, is powered by a combination of a super capacitor with high specific power and a power lithium battery with high specific energy. It has passed the authority certifications such as the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and CCS of China Classification Society.

As early as 2015, China has developed a 500-ton pure electric-driven inland navigation cargo ship designed independently, and tested the new energyization of inland navigation vessels. In November 2017, the world's first 2,000-ton pure electric bulk carrier was hoisted at the Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding Base. The ship is powered by a lithium battery + super capacitor. The battery capacity of the ship is about 2400kWh, which is equivalent to the battery capacity of 40 BYD E6 "first mover" cars. The completion of the ship has filled the market gap of the world's same tonnage-class inland dual-drive bulk carriers.

a broad prospect of $7.3 billion

“New energy ships are the mainstream of the development of the shipbuilding industry. Pure electric boats are born in this context.” Wu Jiaming, professor of the Department of Naval and Ocean Engineering, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, South China University of Technology, said that in the face of increasing energy conservation and emission reduction in the shipping industry Increased pressure, many countries in the world have implemented strict ship discharge standards, and forced the ship to change towards cleanliness.

According to the British media BBC report, the Dutch city government of Amsterdam stipulates that by 2025 all the driving energy of ships must be converted from diesel to electricity. The report quoted a shipping company that modified six cruise ships as an example. A 23-meter-long cruise ship requires about 66 lithium iron phosphate batteries.

In the field of ocean-going commercial shipping, the demand for new energy sources is even more urgent. Daniel Skjeldam, CEO of Norwegian cruise company Hurtigruten, said: "The revolution in the electrification of global shipping has begun. The future of shipping is undoubtedly silent. Our goal is to create quiet, non-emission vessels."

The market report for the 2015-2024 global electric ships, small submarines and automatic underwater ships released by the international market research company Research and Markets predicts that the electric boat market is rushing due to factors such as good performance, affordable cost and legal ban. Growth, by 2024, the global electric ship market will reach 7.3 billion US dollars (about 45.31 billion yuan), and the market prospect is very broad.

Nowadays, in the face of another blue ocean in the field of new energy, Ningde era and BYD, which are leading enterprises in power batteries, have already taken the lead, and Fuergy Technology, Lishen Battery, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Jiewei Power, Penghui Energy, Tianjin Shares, Tower Phil, Weihong Power, Far East Foster... You are not hurrying! ?
