Pininfarina hypes $3 million electric sportscar with new look

Italian automobile designer Pininfarina has released new images of its multi-million dollar all-electric Battista hypercar, featuring slick new exterior styling.

Originally presented at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year in three liveries, the Battista was on show at the Turin Outdoor Auto Show last week in the carmaker’s signature blue.

Automobili Pininfarina presented the new look Blu Iconica Battista featuring more efficient aerodynamics, resulting from a recent simulation program that has, the carmaker said in a press release, evolved the “purity and beauty” of the vehicle.

The end result is a sleek body that reinforces the vehicle’s hypercar status, with a “greater visual connection between front and back” – and no doubt further justifies its luxury price tag of €2 million ($A3.28 million).

Presented on site by Pininfarina’s head of design Luca Borgogno, it is just one of a very limited run of 150 Battistas that will be hand-built by the company near Turin.

“It is incredibly exciting to be presenting the Battista in Turin and near to its home in Cambiano,” Borgogno said in a statement.

The electric hypercar is expected to be delivered with high-end specs such as 2300Nm of torque, a top speed of 400km/hr and acceleration from 0-100km/hr in under 2 seconds.

“Since its debut at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, the Battista has stunned audiences all around the world with its beauty and purity of design,” Borgogno said.

“I am pleased to be presenting it with these latest masterstrokes that make the form of the car even more beautiful and elegant, and true to Pininfarina’s design principles.”

Chair of Pininfarina S.p.A, Paolo Pininfarina, said the company was “really proud” of the Battista.

“The design teams at Pininfarina and Automobili Pininfarina worked hard together to present a work of art at Geneva this year,” he said.

“But we never stop aiming for perfection in car design, so are pleased to be able to add design details to the front surfaces that, I believe, reinforce the Battista’s elegance and beauty.”

After its presentation at Turin, the Battista will resume its aerodynamics development program, which will include simulations in a wind tunnel and development drive programs in Italy this European summer.

The drive development program will be conducted under the guidance of Nick Heidfeld, former Formula 1 and Formula E driver.

Those with the desire – and the bank balance – for one of these premium sportscars had better move fast – the Italian design doyen is already taking orders, and runs will be split into around 50 Battistas for Europe, 50 for North America and 50 in the Middle East and Asia markets.
