Liberty Steel's Whyalla steelworks celebrates coke oven closure (steeltimesint.com)
Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese toured Liberty Steel’s Whyalla steelworks as it celebrated its move toward low carbon, green steel production.Albanese was joined by South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas to mark the closure of the coke ovens and the company’s implementation of hydrogen-Direct Reduced Iron and Electric Arc Furnace technology.
Speaking at a joint media conference at the steelworks — where the coking ovens have been closed after 55 years, as the site moves towards more sustainable options — Mr Albanese said that $70 million of the $100 million would be provided by the federal government to help bolster the economic future of the region.
The best part?
Is he referring to Sanjeev Gupta's or MGT's 4 billion tons? Whatever it is Magnetite came out from the prime minister's mouth so his intention is clear. Go MGT!
