Ok that was very naughty to miss this joint Bosch and Renesas patent and long term relationship but I am going to call that Fact 1.

Fact 2. Bosch has been exploring Ai for some years and in 2017 set up the Bosch Ai Centre: https://www.bosch-ai.com/

Fact 3. Renesas had/has its own Ai program and timetable through to 2022.

Fact 4. Bosch and Renesas are the No. 6 & No.3 largest semiconductor suppliers to the automotive industry world wide. Huge individually and together enormous and rich in technology resources and human intellect.

Fact 5. Brainchip on 23 December, 2020 had never supplied a semiconductor to any automotive industry participant on solely commercial use basis and had less than 40 employees worldwide.

Fact 6. Despite all of the above on 23 December, 2020 Renesas enters an unconditional licence agreement for Brainchip's AKIDA technology IP.

Question: Did Renesas notwithstanding its relationship with Bosch reach the point where like Intel they realised they were about to hit a technological roadblock and that Brainchip had the answer but that the answer was too well protected by patent to get around so they needed to bite the bullet to stay on track with their planned roll out in 2022.

I cannot think of any other logical answer to this question.
