Recently in a number of posts on this subject I acknowledged the contributions made by many migrants pre and post ww2, some of whom may have been basically illiterate without command of any English.

Interestingly todays editorial in the West Australian is precisely on this subject and gives a great account of the contribution of the Italians to the advancement of the State of Western Australia. It outlines the history of the passing of two such great Australians who migrated from Italy, one pre war and the other post war. These were the late Tomasso D'Orsogna, the famous small goods manufacturer and the late Francesco(Frank) Cardaci who built a Transport empire.

It makes good reading and for anyone who has access to the West Australian I highly recommend it.

I felt chuffed that this editorial was in a general way reflecting what I have been saying on HotCopper.

    cheers
