The other day I said that if it were just for Uranium enrichment using Lasers, I doubt that the existing enrichers would be even interested, I believe it is for other reasons why they could be interested?
Zog was saying, that being able to separate out the nuclear poisons was important, I agree with him, but there other ways of overcoming the poisons part, i.e. enriching the RepU to a higher degree is another way other than separating out the poisons using laser.
But it seems recycling has lots of it's own problems in other areas, I found this PDF which may explain what other enrichers may be interested in the Silex process especially when you consider this link -: http://www.ans.org/pubs/journals/nt/a_36800
I believe it all relates to heat build up in the UNF caused by PU240 which is a separate issue to the nuclear poisons?
Read the attached PDF below, especially the very last paragraph, remember that it was written in 2009 and last updated in 2012, the document re laser removal was written in 2014, I think a lot has changed since 2009 to 2012, and this could be the real reason why other enrichers are certainly be interested now?
Some of the existing enrichers already recycle UNF now as a MOX fuel, they would know about these heat problems, if a way has been found to overcome the build up of heat by removal of the PU 240 in the UNF using laser Isotope separation ? then it is game on I reckon!
