The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has stepped into the battle for control of cashed-up Molopo by asking the Takeovers Panel to investigate links between Farooq Khan's Keybridge Capital and Aurora Funds Management.

Keybridge previously owned Aurora and sold out last July, saying that Aurora was no longer associated with it.

Since that time Aurora has increased its shareholding in Molopo to 17.89% and Keybridge has increased its shareholding in Molopo to 19.44%.

Keybridge has since moved to dump Molopo's board and install its own nominees, to grab control of Molopo's significant cash resources.

Aurora also wants a seat at the board table.

ASIC contends that Keybridge and Aurora are associated entities and their combined shareholding in Molopo is 37.33% in contravention of the law limiting control to 20%.

It wants an interim restraining order preventing them from trading in Molopo shares or exercising their voting rights.

The panel is yet to decide whether to conduct proceedings.""
