Your , point ?
( self- interest - I very much hope not so )
Kindly .
Interesting article - WA today and during this week.
An excellent critique. On how local indigenous landowners have been held down (and back- for decades on end ) - sacred sites protection , tabu lands etc , the tribal elders decide progress . Land Rights - of course !
However -
The poignant and damning truth - is that here they are - decades, after early 80s protests , and since .. after initial moves by companies holding licences ( most long gone away and left them to it) , and government moves to try to get important income producing resources , into production . Never eventuated yet .
Of course only contemplated where is equitable, and with strict environmental standards to dictate operations , & ultimate rehabilitation and return once mining done if applicable .
Yet - a full generation .. later - Resources still Not in production . Nil income , virtually no employment or work skills other than working cattle and other broad- scale low per capita producing enterprises .
* Indigenous tribes — to the enormous detriment of their young people, still , and with third world living standards often enduring - have been reliant on Welfare .
Now - is time . Many places .
All in good time perhaps with Isabel , nickel developments .
But - to me - the SI , and specific local traditional land groups here - needed to decide for , and WANT a better life for the upcoming generation .
The time for nickel development is Now .
(As it is for many base resources moving into the 2020s and beyond ? )
The Solomon Islands - as an emerging nation - as a country needs to progress now .
Civil strife and local conflicts - best left behind .
No one wants regressive moves, or individual parties to act in self - interest anymore ?
I think the SI people recognise - and wish to work together for the greater good , to benefit all.
No article like this should need to be paid to go into a newspaper , for chest- beating by 3 representatives alone -
There are as I understood, researched to ensure - robust, kind , local , concerted current efforts to recognise custom landowners and for all to be ratified .
These are processes for the local country and their administration to answer surely .
The future should be bright for Solomon Islanders !
unfortunately...thought that landowners already with us, page-7
