WESTERN Australia’s Department of Mines and Petroleum has set the stage for an acreage bidding war with the release of two permits on the Dampier Peninsula, less than 100km northwest of Buru’s Ungani discovery.
L12-15 and L12-16 are the star attractions in the latest release of 13 areas in WA’s onshore and coastal water locations.
Industry demand for L12-15 and L12-16 is so strong the DMP has set an early closing date for the two permits of December 6.
The other 11 areas will remain open for bids until April 18, 2013.
It is believed a number of explorers already tried to secure the Dampier Peninsula areas by applying for special prospecting authorities, an alternative and little-used route for securing exploration acreage in WA.
