If in some far off future robots do all the work, why should someone need government help to study? Why not just give them a set allowance and let them do what they choose without overbearing intervention? Why should some have their choice of what they do with their time subsidized whilst others whom make a different choice not have it subsidized?

In the mean time as robots take jobs we may need difference and relevant qualifications with less hours per week worked on average. Henry Ford is credited in creating the 5 day working week. Perhaps it is time with increasing unemployment to have a 4 day working week.

Its not up to the government to falsely promise a better career when facts do not clearly point that way. If there is not a clear social benefit in money spent, the government should keep out of it.

There is no clear benefit in providing double the number of scientists (in some fields) that society demands every single year. The extra cash could be spent on so many better things and perhaps students who could have studied science may pursue something more productive and more beneficial to everyone.
