    Yes, there's something detached, clinical and possibly cathartic (for the killer) in using a gun. Movies and videogames have shown us all how easy it is. However, a 20 cent box of matches is all it takes to cause the same destruction in a uni dorm. Over a dozen people died a few years back when a guy set a backpacker hostel in Queensland on fire. Gangsters have firebombed discotheques etc and caused horrific carnage. The gun is not the only tool for mass-murder but it does seem to be a favourite.

    Most of these massacres were pre-planned. You have to ask yourself: would someone who is so deliberate and determined to kill be put off by not having a gun? I believe they would look for another tool of execution if no gun was available, e.g. fire.
